A bit about me
I’m Laura, a Scottish midwife, a granddaughter of a midwife, and a believer that no matter where in the world you are, birth should feel like home.
With experience working in the UK’s largest maternity unit, I now also focus on maternity education for families living abroad. My mission is to ensure that language barriers and foreign protocols never stand in the way of you having an informed, empowered, and positive pregnancy, birth and postnatal experience.
I have worked in the busy NHS public system and gained so much knowledge and skill from this. However I unfortunately also have seen first hand how maternity care can feel rushed and clinical. My mission is to provide a sanctuary of calm and consistency. To answer the unanswered questions and to simply be a friendly face during this life changing time.
The heart of my work is inspired by my own mother. Over 30 years ago, she gave birth to my twin brothers while living abroad, and she still speaks of the deep-rooted anxiety she felt. Navigating an unfamiliar medical system whilst pregnant is a heavy weight to carry. I’ve seen how those memories can stay with a woman for a lifetime, and I am here to make sure your story is different.

A personalised approach ☀️
Navigating a pregnancy is a massive life event; doing it in a foreign country, away from your usual support system, adds a layer of complexity that most people don’t see. My approach is designed to peel back those layers of stress, leaving you with nothing but excitement and clarity.
I provide bespoke support that meets you exactly where you are. Whether you’re looking for clarity, emotional reassurance, or a tailored birth and postnatal plan that actually works in a foreign system, our sessions are built around you. No question is too small, and no fear is too silly—this is your space to feel heard.
Why Solare?
In Italian, Solare describes more than just the sun. It describes a person who is radiant, joyful, and full of life.
As well as this, Solare is deeply rooted in the pregnancy and birthing world.
In the Mediterranean, birth isn’t just a beginning; it is an awakening.
In Italy, they say dare alla luce.
In Spain, they say dar a luz.
In Portugal, they say dar à luz
Each of these beautiful phrases translates to the same profound act: To give birth to the light.
I chose the name Solare because it captures that transition. It honors the "glow" you carry throughout your pregnancy and celebrates the breathtaking moment you bring a new light into the world. Whether you are in a quiet village or a busy city halfway across the globe, that radiance is universal.
