Three things to pack in your hospital bag this summer

If you are pregnant and due to have your baby soon, keep reading! It is so important to ensure your hospital bag is packed with everything you need to tackle birth.. and the heat!

Hospital rooms can get notoriously hot with many hospitals across Europe not having working aircon or even opening windows.

Number 1 - a Fan

A fan is a must pack item! Often hospitals don’t provide fans due to infection control therefore bringing your own is essential. Small manual handheld fans work well, although your birth partner is probably going to need to help you with this.

The best option is to bring a small handheld electric fan. Better yet are the ones that have a small clip or attachment so you can clip it onto the bed or furniture.

Number 2 - A face flannel

A simple flannel can make a massive difference to your labour experience.

If you wet the flannel with cold water and place it on your forehead or your wrists it can instantly cool you down. Paired with a cool fan this is a winning combination!

The wrists and neck work especially well as that's where blood vessels sit close to the skin, so cooling there cools you down faster.

Number 3 - a scrunchie

When it is warm and sweaty in a labour room there is truly nothing worse than having your hair falling over your face.

Scrunchies are the perfect solution as they are soft and comfortable so they don’t hurt regardless of where your head is leaning.

Regardless of where you are giving birth this summer, especially if you are giving birth abroad, I hope these items will help you feel a little more comfortable!

Also please remember to drink plenty of water!
